Overdraft Protection for Worry-Free Spending

No matter how carefully you manage your money, an unexpected expense or small mistake can sometimes lead to an overdraft. That’s why we offer smart options to help you avoid declined transactions, bounced checks, and unnecessary fees—so you can stay in control of your finances.

How to Reduce Overdrafts

The best way to avoid overdrafts is by staying on top of your balance. With online banking, mobile banking, and account alerts, you have the tools to monitor your money anytime, anywhere. But if an overdraft does happen, we’ve got options to help you move forward.

Overdraft Transfers
What is it?
This service automatically moves funds from another First State Bank account to cover transactions* on a checking account that does not have sufficient funds.

Fees
$10 per transfer (per day, not per item)
Flexible Line of Credit
What is it?
A personal revolving line of credit can be connected to your checking account and used on demand (by transferring at an ATM or in Online Banking) or automatically in the event your connected checking account has insufficient funds.
How to Enroll
Must apply for Flexible Line of Credit.
Fees
Repayments are made on the balance and interest (rather than fees) is incurred for the use of the line of credit.

If You Opt Out of Overdraft Coverage

If you choose to disable overdraft privilege and have no additional protection, here’s what happens when you don’t have enough funds:

  • Checks, ACH payments, and bill pay transactions are returned as Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF), and a fee is assessed.
  • Everyday debit card and ATM transactions are declined.

To remove Overdraft Privilege, call or stop by the First State Bank branch nearest you.

If you've already enrolled in Debit Card Coverage, and you would like to disable it, click here to opt out.

*Transfers made from savings are limited to six per month. Transfer from Savings Fee is waived for Premium Checking Accounts.

** Overdraft Privilege is not a contract or obligation of the bank to pay overdrafts but rather a discretionary customer service which allows customers to overdraw an account. Any items presented that overdraw the account may be returned unpaid with the applicable non-sufficient fund fee charged for each item.

If a check is submitted or a transaction is made for funds exceeding what is available in the account, the customer is immediately responsible for the amount of any overdraft and applicable fees. It is the obligation of the customer to keep the account in good standing with the Bank and, should an overdraft situation occur, to bring the account to a positive balance immediately without notice or demand from the Bank.
