Since 1972, CRWC has been dedicated to protecting, enhancing, and celebrating the Clinton River, its watershed, and Lake St. Clair. Through environmental monitoring, habitat restoration projects, educational programming, and volunteer engagement opportunities, the organization works to preserve and improve one of Southeast Michigan's most important natural resources.
Their impact extends across a 760-square-mile watershed that spans portions of Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, Lapeer, and St. Clair counties. The health of these waterways affects local ecosystems, recreational opportunities, wildlife habitats, and the communities that live, work, and play throughout the region.
When CRWC applied for Banksgiving, they identified a critical need that directly supports their mission: replacing an outdated flow meter that was no longer functioning properly and could not be repaired.
A flow meter is a scientific instrument used to measure the speed and volume of water moving through a stream or river. Because CRWC conducts monitoring and restoration work throughout the watershed, having a portable and reliable flow meter is essential. Accurate flow data helps staff evaluate habitat conditions, measure project effectiveness, identify problem areas, assess water levels, and calculate sediment and pollutant loads within waterways.
The Banksgiving award helped provide funding toward this important equipment need, allowing CRWC to continue collecting the information necessary to make informed environmental decisions and support long-term restoration efforts.
This is what Banksgiving is all about. While the gift itself may be a single moment, the impact continues long after. In this case, the support contributes to ongoing environmental monitoring and habitat improvement efforts that benefit local communities across Southeast Michigan.
We are honored to recognize the Clinton River Watershed Council for their dedication to environmental stewardship and community improvement. Their work demonstrates how local organizations can create meaningful, lasting change through education, science, collaboration, and action.
