(St. Clair Shores, Michigan) October 27, 2021 – First State Bank has made their mark by being the community bank who cares about their neighbors. Whether it is volunteering to help the community or donating funds to local nonprofit groups, First State Bank takes care of their hometown. Currently, First State Bank is running their single largest giving event; Banksgiving.
As part of their efforts to honor charitable organizations who work hard to make a positive change in our communities, Banksgiving is an annual giving program by First State Bank. This Banksgiving, First State Bank will award $30,000 to local nonprofit organizations. There will be four gift winners, each receiving a $5,000 donation and one grand gift winner receiving a $10,000 donation. “Nonprofit organizations are a key part of our community.” shares Amy, the Marketing Director and 1st Vice President at First State Bank, “You hear some of the stories on how these organizations helped families and kids in need with food or clothes, and think ‘We need to support this’. When your neighbor needs help, you give them a hand. This is just our way of being neighborly.”
Nonprofit organizations are eligible to be nominated for Banksgiving if they are a 501(c) nonprofit located in Macomb or Oakland County or if the proceeds can be used to directly benefit Macomb or Oakland County causes. The 2021 Banksgiving nominations ended on October 22, 2021 with the finalists announced on November 15, kicking off the public voting. The public can start voting from November 15 through November 26 on which nonprofit finalists should be a Banksgiving gift winner. The Banksgiving winners are announced on Giving Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
Last year, the nonprofit organizations who received funds from First State Bank for Banksgiving included Single Family Living, Macomb Food Program, Assistance League of Southeast Michigan, TCB Youth Mentoring, and, the grand prize winner, Hearts for Homes. “I was ecstatic to find that Hearts for Homes won the First State Bank Banksgiving program grand prize, just ecstatic!” Richard Cannon, President of Hearts for Homes, shared, “The Banksgiving Grant Funds were used in three ways: about 75% of the funds provided rent assistance to keep families from becoming homeless, about another 10% was to help a homeless family get into a home, and the other was to help provide motel assistance to keep people from being on the streets while looking for housing.”
