First State Bank is Accepting Nominations for Annual Banksgiving Program

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI, October 8, 2024 – First State Bank is proud to announce the return of its annual Banksgiving community campaign. For the fifth consecutive year, First State Bank will accept nominations for local non-profit organizations to receive one of five generous donations. First State Bank will donate a total of $30,000 to five local charities, selected by community vote.

Banksgiving is a campaign designed to raise awareness of non-profit organizations that make a positive impact in our local communities. The grand prize recipient will receive a $10,000 donation, while the next four highest-voted organizations will each be awarded $5,000.

Last Year's winners:

  • More Than a Bus is an organization that drives its bus into areas of poverty and homelessness, delivering food, hygiene items, and clothing to Metro Detroit’s underserved citizens,
  • Family Youth Interventions shelters and supports at-risk youth ages 12-17. Their overarching goal is to reunify youths with their families
  • Gianna House aims to offer education and housing for at-risk pregnant women and mothers. Their focus is on providing the necessary life skills to transition them to independence.
  • Urban Seed’s vision is to create a network of urban gardens. They also run a Giving Garden which grows produce they donate to their community
  • Last year’s grand prize winner was Homes for Heroic Vets. The organization provides transitional housing for homeless veterans while connecting them with VA support and services.

“We are thrilled to support the organizations in our local community who are making a positive impact. The work they do is vital, but they often don’t receive the recognition they deserve. We hope to not only support them through financial contributions but also raise awareness of their efforts to those who may benefit from their services or wish to volunteer,” said Amy Persyn, Chief Marketing Officer of First State Bank.

One previous grand prize winner - Macomb Foster Closet - is a great example of what a program like Banksgiving can do for local non-profits. After the exposure they gained from winning in 2021, they have raised $1,280,000 and bought their own permanent building space to house the organization.

Nominations for non-profits will be accepted from October 21 - 25, 2024, and can be submitted online at Fsb.bank/banksgiving. Finalists will be announced on November 11, 2024, with voting beginning that same day and continuing through November 22, 2024. The final winners will be revealed, and donations awarded on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
